Worship Schedule
St. Mary's Holy Eucharist
services are at 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays during the school year,
starting in September. Beginning in June, our schedule changes to
8:00 and 10:00 a.m. on Sundays for the summer. Informal worship
services are held on the second Sunday of each month at 9:00 a.m.,
except the summer months of June through August. We also have an
additional Eucharist service every Wednesday at 12 noon. Special
services scheduled during the week and for special occasions are listed
on our calendar.
Baptisms...Holy
Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as His children and
makes us members of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the
Kingdom of God. Anyone with faith in Jesus Christ may be
baptized, as well as any young child or infant with a sponsor willing to
make vows of faith on behalf of the child. To arrange for a baptism,
contact a Priest, who will meet with the parents or candidate to
discuss the meaning of the service, to help choose sponsors, and to set
the date for the service.
Weddings...Christian
marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in
the presence of God. In the Episcopal Church it is required that at
least one of the parties be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be
attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the
laws of the State of North Carolina and the Canons of the Church. To
arrange for a wedding at St. Mary's, contact a Priest, who will
discuss the meaning of the ceremony and set a date. St. Mary's also has
a wedding committee
that can provide guidance and assistance.
Confirmations...Confirmation
affirms our covenants with God in Jesus Christ entered into at Baptism.
The Sacramental Rite of Confirmation is a conscious statement of our
intention to make the Christian journey. Confirmation classes are offered prior to the Bishop's annual visitation,
when conformation is administered. For more information, please contact
the clergy.
Eucharist...At
the heart of Christianity is the Eucharist, a thing of absolute
simplicity, the taking, blessing and giving of bread and wine as these
were done by Jesus with His friends on the night before he died. He
told His friends to do this henceforward with the new meaning for the
recalling of Him, and they have done it ever since. You may take your
Communion by receiving both bread and wine. If you choose to receive
only bread, cross your arms upon your chest. If you wish to receive the
wine, you may do so either by drinking from the cup or by dipping the
wafer in the wine. If you prefer the latter, simply dip the wafer into
the intinction cup. If you prefer to drink from the cup, the chalice
bearer will serve you. All baptized Christians are welcome to
receive the Eucharist.
Funerals...At
St. Mary's Church, as in all Christian Churches, we believe very deeply
in our Lord's promise of eternal life. We view the service of the burial
of the dead as a solemn moment in the life of the Church, reminding us
of our physical mortality, but we also see this time as one in which we
can be reminded to give thanks again to God for caring about us enough
to send His Son that we might through Him have the gift of eternal life.
When the death of a member of the Church occurs, the Rector should be
called at once and arrangements for the funeral made in consultation
with the Rector.
Special Services
and Prayers...St Mary's is a
Christian community sustained by prayer. If you are visiting our church,
please fill out a Prayer Request Card, found in the pew rack or use our
Prayer Request form located on our site, if there is
someone whom you would like to have remembered in prayer. We must have
the consent of any and all people on our prayer lists. You may also
call our office at (336) 886-4756.
