Stephen Ministry The Stephen Ministry is a pastoral care program. It is a complete system of training and organizing lay persons for caring ministry in and around their parish. God's love is expressed through the caring commitment of these lay ministers. Christ-centered pastoral care is given one to one. The helping relationship focuses on the unique needs of the individual. The caring relationship lasts as long as the need exists and is strictly confidential. Since May, 1992 to 2000, St. Mary's has commissioned 14 Stephen Ministers who completed 50 hours of training. They agreed to serve for at least two years. The program has been well received in the parish and the local community. Approximately 50+ individuals (including family members) have been served. Stephen Ministers meet monthly for continuing education, support and supervision. Confidentiality and supervision are two critical areas of this ministry. Stephen Ministers are supervised by Stephen leaders and the clergy. For more information, please call John Haworth. (His number is listed in the church directory.)
