St. Mary's Choirs

Saint Mary's Choir sings for 11:00 a.m. Sunday services throughout the year (10:00 a.m. during the summer), as well as evening services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, and monthly evensong services. Special performances of difficult choral pieces and complicated orchestral assemblages are conducted throughout the year on special occasions.

Most choir members have had some musical training and read music, though the most common characteristic is enthusiasm for great music and eagerness to learn. We welcome visitors to attend choir rehearsals (the Choir Room is on the second floor of the Parish Hall). In addition, St. Mary's Music Academy provides private, professional music instruction to students of all ages.

Adult Choir...The Adult Choir's primary mission is to praise God through leading the congregation in worship services and exceptional musical programs. The Choir sings every week at the 11:00 am worship service (10:00 during the summer) and at special services on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Thanksgiving Eve. Occasionally, the Choir sings for funerals and weddings. The group also performs special programs at St. Mary's, at other churches with their choirs, at area colleges, and has sung with the Winston-Salem Symphony.  Membership is made up of adult men and women who have both talent and interest in music. Regular attendance at rehearsals and services is expected. Current membership is 22, with an average Sunday attendance of about 15 or 16. Regular rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 and Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 10:45. When the church shifts to its summer schedule, the Choir rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:00 for the 10:00 service.  Extra rehearsals for special programs are held several times a year, usually on Saturdays. There is a great feeling of fellowship, of caring, and a sense of belonging in the group. Choir members have the best seats and the best view in the house!
